Start at the Beginning
Just start. Whatever it is you have been wanting to do, take that first step. Sure, it is going to be scary and no you won’t have all the answers or see the way very clearly. Hoping and wishing will never make it happen but inspired action will.
Clearly, I knew nothing about writing a book. I knew that I had a story to tell and these lovely characters that I created in my mind, but other than that, not a clue. It wasn’t until I made a decision to start that really changed my trajectory. I warn you, that once you set the thing in motion, be prepared for it to take on a life of its own. But in a good way.
The first step I took was hiring a writing coach. If you are a fledgling writer, I highly encourage this. You can find my writing coach at www.writertonidepalma.com. Is this a shameless plug, why yes, yes, it is! I will forever be grateful to her for giving me the inspiration to simply start and the courage to continue. She is up to big things too! A movie she wrote and directed has been chosen by the Chelsea Film Festival. She has no idea I’m writing this about her. I hope she is ok with it.
The pandemic put me in a real tailspin, like it did many people. Sitting at home day after day, I wanted to poke my own eyes out. But then I found solace in writing this story and it made me feel good. My mind was saying, “yes, do more of that.” And so, I have. Some people turned to baking, I turned to writing. Because quite frankly, my pants were already getting a little tight.
